Karka, the crab and the house
Karka is the crab. The Moon rules it. Homes, mothers, and the tide of a mood are the classroom topics, not a verdict.

The crab carries its house. The Moon, the fastest of the traditional grahas, rules Karka, which is why this sign is tied to homes, kitchens, and the person who kept you fed. Those ties are significations. They are prompts for reading a chart, not findings about your mother.
Karka lagna makes the fourth house Tula, the seventh Makara, and so on, in whole signs. You can see that on the chart page if you enter a real time. A date without a time can still give a Moon sign, the janma rashi, which is what gochara and the dasha need. It cannot give a lagna. The form on this site will not fill a blank clock with noon and call it yours.
Moods change because people are alive. The Moon's transit is one traditional language for that. It is a language, with grammar, and it is not the only one you are allowed to speak.
